A food forest is a permaculture term for a well planned perennial food garden. For us, that means placing plants that are well suited to grow next to each other or sometimes called “guilding” or “companion planting”.  Over the past few years we have added raspberries, yarrow, walking onions, strawberries, hops, currents, rhubarb, horseradish and comfrey to name a few.  In the summer of 2014 we added some swales to help reduce or eliminate the need for watering. In the fall of 2015 we added an electrical fence to keep horses and deer out. This is an ongoing project that requires fence repairs, plant additions, weeding and other care and maintenance. Once our plants are mature, we plan to divide, graft and take cuttings so that we can spread food around the entire reservation. Any donations made towards this project will help grow, maintain and improve this project.
